As tensions escalate between Israel and Hezbollah, maritime security firm Ambrey has issued a warning regarding the increasing dangers for vessels operating in the Eastern Mediterranean. The conflict has intensified, particularly following the recent detonation of thousands of beepers across Lebanon, leading to a series of airstrikes between the two parties. This uptick in military activity has resulted in significant maritime security risks, especially for vessels calling at Israeli and Lebanese ports. Ambrey’s analysis reveals that the port of Haifa is currently at “heightened risk” and could become a direct target for Hezbollah. In contrast, Beirut and other Lebanese ports are deemed to be at “moderate risk,” with the looming threat of a naval blockade. The firm emphasizes that the ongoing Israeli bombing campaign is expected to persist, aimed at undermining Hezbollah’s offensive and defensive capabilities.
“Possible further escalatory Israeli airstrikes or an Israeli ground incursion would likely lead to direct operations against Haifa port,” stated Ambrey. Recent footage reportedly shows Israeli airstrikes targeting a Hezbollah command center in southern Beirut, further escalating tensions in the region.
The situation is further complicated by the potential for simultaneous actions from other militant groups in the region. Ambrey highlights that simultaneous attacks by Hamas, Houthi, or Iraqi militants pose a continuous risk to Israel’s remaining ports, including Ashdod, Ashkelon, Hadera, and Eilat. These ports could face collateral damage from long-range targeting operations.
